AI Prompts for Kitchen Design

Oct 7, 2026·Galley, island, rental, modern, country: five prompts and the image each one returned.
1. Sage green galley kitchen / 1. Cuisine couloir vert sauge

A kitchen prompt works when it gives five things in order: the layout, the cabinet front and its colour, the worktop, the backsplash and the floor. Kitchens are made of fixed surfaces, so a prompt that only names a style leaves the model to invent all of them. Each prompt below is shown with the image it produced.

1. Sage green galley kitchen

Prompt

A galley kitchen, 2.2 metres wide, flat-front cabinets in sage green #A3B18A, white quartz worktop, white zellige tile backsplash with uneven glaze, brushed brass handles, oak floor. A kettle, a chopping board and a bowl of lemons left on the worktop. Daylight from a window at the far end. Eye-level photo, 28mm lens, straight verticals.

1. Sage green galley kitchen

The galley layout, sage fronts, zellige backsplash and brass details all came back. The lemons and the kettle are on the worktop where the prompt left them.

2. L-shaped kitchen with a navy island

Prompt

An L-shaped kitchen with an island, shaker cabinets in off-white, island in navy #1F2A44, butcher-block island top, white marble-look worktops on the walls, three small black pendants over the island, terracotta tile floor. Morning sun from a window over the sink. Photographed from the dining side at eye level, 35mm lens, a dish towel hanging from the oven handle.

2. L-shaped kitchen with a navy island

Two colours on two elements, each named, came out correctly: off-white walls of cabinets, navy island, wooden top, three black pendants.

3. Rental kitchen on a budget

Prompt

A small rental kitchen made over on a budget: existing white cabinets kept, new matte black handles, peel-and-stick subway tile backsplash, open oak shelf with everyday plates and glasses, a plug-in wall lamp, vinyl plank floor in light oak. Flat overcast daylight. Phone photo from the doorway, slightly crooked, nothing staged.

3. Rental kitchen on a budget

The most useful one for a real project: it keeps the existing cabinets and changes handles, backsplash, shelf and lamp. The result looks like a kitchen someone uses.

4. Handleless walnut kitchen

Prompt

A modern handleless kitchen in warm walnut veneer with a full-height tall unit wall, dark grey stone worktop, integrated oven and fridge, a single open niche lit by a warm LED strip, large-format beige porcelain floor. Evening, under-cabinet lighting on, 2700K. Eye-level photo, 35mm lens, a coffee cup and a newspaper on the worktop.

4. Handleless walnut kitchen

The tall unit wall, the lit niche and the dark stone worktop are there. Under-cabinet lighting at 2700K gives the evening mood without any other instruction.

5. Country kitchen

Prompt

A country kitchen with a freestanding range cooker, cream painted cabinets, a deep ceramic farmhouse sink, wooden worktops with visible wear, open plate rack, flagstone floor, a window with herbs on the sill. Soft rainy-day light. Eye-level photo, 35mm lens, natural colour, a pan left on the hob.

5. Country kitchen

Range cooker, farmhouse sink, plate rack and stone floor all appear. Asking for worktops 'with visible wear' is what keeps it from looking new.

What these five runs showed

  • ✓Name the layout first: galley, L-shape, island. It fixes the camera and everything else.
  • ✓Give each colour to one element. 'Navy island, off-white cabinets' works; 'navy and white kitchen' leaves it to chance.
  • ✓Width in metres makes a kitchen read as narrow or generous.
  • ✓For a renovation, say what stays. 'Existing cabinets kept' produces a believable budget result.
  • ✓One or two everyday objects on the worktop do more for realism than any quality keyword.

Questions

What should an AI prompt for a kitchen include?

The layout, the cabinet front and colour, the worktop, the backsplash and the floor, then the light and the camera position.

Can AI show my own kitchen with new cabinet colours?

Yes, from a photo of the kitchen, asking for one change and naming what must stay the same.

How do I get a realistic kitchen image?

Ask for an eye-level photo with straight verticals and leave a few used objects on the worktop.

Can I use the image as a kitchen plan?

No. It is a visual direction. Dimensions, plumbing and appliances need a kitchen planner or a fitter.

How these prompts were tested

Each prompt on this page was run once in English and once in French on 5 October 2026 with Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model. The images are those results, resized and otherwise untouched. That is one run per language: the same prompt can return a different image next time, and other tools will answer differently. Where a run went wrong, we say so.
